Skanska USA Building is headquartered on the 32nd floor of the Empire State Building in New York City; it has offices in 34 metro areas and more than 10,000 employees. In 2014, its gross revenue was $7.3 billion. Of that, $416 million was generated by work in Oregon and Southwest Washington. The office here is continuing to take on a diverse array of projects, including a boutique hotel in downtown Portland, a Central Oregon city hall, a corporate campus in Vancouver, Wash., and a number of school buildings.

鈥� Going up in the shadow of Skanska’s Portland office in the KOIN Tower is the $56 million, 16-story Porter Hotel聽that is part of . Designed by HC Architecture of Atlanta, it will feature a 鈥渘eighborhood-themed鈥� restaurant and a market-style caf茅. Plans call for 13 floors of guest rooms with meeting spaces above. A high-end restaurant and lounge with large, covered outdoor terraces will occupy the 16th floor.

鈥� Skanska is performing preconstruction work for the 210-foot-long extension of Portland International Airport‘s Concourse E, as well as the relocation of Alaska/Horizon from concourses A, B, and C to Concourse E, and United Airlines from Concourse E to Concourse C.聽Design is by Hennebery Eddy Architects of Portland and Fentress Architects of Denver.

鈥� Crews are at work on the 206,000-square-foot Banfield Pet Hospital corporate headquarters. The scope of work includes interior build-out and all site work, landscaping and other related site improvements on the 17.5-acre Columbia Tech Center site in Vancouver, Wash. A Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design rating is being sought by the project team 鈥� including Gensler (the world’s largest architecture firm) and Portland’s TVA Architects.

鈥� Skanska is constructing the $104 million, 287,000-square-foot renovation of Franklin High School for Portland Public Schools. Designed by DOWA-IBI Group and SERA Architects, it includes approximately 144,000 square feet of new construction, including a stand-alone gym/biomedical/culinary arts building, a performing arts center, a student commons and an industrial technology wing. The project also includes renovation of approximately 143,000 square feet of existing buildings, some that were constructed as early as 1915.

鈥� Skanska is in charge of the 97,000-square-foot renovation and 37,000-square-foot pavilion and atrium addition to serve Portland State University‘s School of Business Administration. The project is designed by German-based Behnisch Architekten and by SRG Partnership Inc.聽 A LEED gold rating is being targeted.

鈥� A $51 million, 166,000-square-foot new middle school is being built by Skanska for Beaverton School District on a 16-acre site. The school, designed by Mahlum Architects, will be a two-story structure comprised of structural concrete, steel framing and precast concrete panels. This building will feature classrooms, science labs, a library, main and auxiliary gymnasiums, alcove courtyards, outdoor learning space and a terrace attached to the art room. The school will have the same seismic classification as hospitals so it can serve as an emergency shelter and as a central point for food and water distribution. The roof is prepared for future solar panel installation.
